Description
This is a 2 part class to allow for development and practice of the song mapping concept. Each class is 90 minutes long. You will want to sign up for part 1 and part 2. November 24 and December 1, both at 7pm Eastern
I’ve long found that the simple practice of “song mapping” is the single most helpful practice and model for a writer, and that’s because it helps him or her develop a real FEEL for song construction and natural feeling flow. Learning it as a young writer in Nashville got me moving steadily in the right direction, and it’s still an ever-present reference… four decades later!
In our class we’ll start by taking a good look at the song mapping model and use it to map a couple of well-known songs. Then we’ll apply the model to your songs
*If you would like one of your songs “mapped” (with a brief critique) during our class time, you may send me an MP3 and lyrics in advance to tom.kimmel@yahoo.com so I can be be prepared to review it for the class. (Given our time limitation, that will be “first come, first serve.” We’ll get to as many songs as we can, and everyone will receive an emailed handout after class.)
You will be able to practice song mapping between sessions 1 and 2.
